| As a fully integrated, or design/build, engineering contractor, Mouat can provide sub-systems within an existing facility, or modify existing facilities to improve efficiency, safety, and environmental quality. Mouat can also provide complete facilities, up to and including turnkey responsibility. Or, Mouat can augment its clients' resources, resulting in a fully-integrated project.
Structural / Stress Analysis
Finite element analysis software is used for the design and drafting of all structures and foundations. This custom software integrates structural design with mechanical design and detail drawings. The use of finite element analysis further allows us to accurately model both the structure and complex loading conditions that include vibrational loads. Finite element analysis is also used to assist customers with the design of their cast products. By accurately modeling the proposed product and loading requirements, finite element analysis can accurately predict stress, deflection, and failure without having to actually make the product. Information obtained about the point and mode of failure allows the designer to optimize the design performance of the product and is usually coupled with a reduction in casting weight and cost.
Custom Electrical Controls
The integration of power distribution and electrical controls into the turnkey system offers many benefits. The two most important benefits of the coordinated design/construct effort of mechanical and electrical systems are faster installation and startup, and more comprehensive system documentation. The system controls are designed based on installation and maintenance factors, rather than the traditional approach of designing around panels and software. The system documentation is based on each piece of equipment and allows one drawing to reflect information for control logic, hardware, and installation.
Control systems may be PC or PLC based. PC based designs may utilize PLC I/O or combinations of I/O and smart sensors using a digital network, or bus system. PLC based designs may utilize the PLC brand of your choice. All Mouat-supplied control equipment is shop wired and tested, thus reducing the time required for troubleshooting in the field. Also, Mouat-supplied software is simulated and debugged during the shop testing.
Engineering Studies
While Mouat's primary focus is not consulting engineering projects, many of our customers have contracted with us to provide feasibility studies, concept development studies, and detailed layouts of new manufacturing facilities. These studies, in many cases, have led to implementation contracts, with partial or full responsibility. |
